President & CEO

Robin Tomechko was appointed President and CEO of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Maryland in October 1998. She began with the agency in 1983 as a Case Manager, and has developed into one of our most successful chief executives in the country. Robin is a visionary and inspiring leader, who has led her agency to achieve tremendous growth in matches and revenue, while maintaining and enhancing the quality service for which Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Greater Chesapeake is known and admired.
The numbers and metrics tell part of the story. In fiscal year 1999 when Robin took over at the helm, the agency served 342 children in one-to-one relationships, and had a budget of $400,000. Under Robin’s leadership, the agency will serve an estimated 1,800 children in the current fiscal year. During this period, total children served have grown, with match growth rates each year ranging from 2% to 90%. While this growth is indeed impressive, it is even more remarkable to look at the agency’s quality metrics, which were top in BBBSA in 2010. The institution of a multi-department Early Match Closure Review Team has been a significant tool in increasing match length as it unites all staff to own and work toward this goal.
Robin currently serves as The Maryland Big Brothers Big Sisters State Association Chair, working with six other agency affiliates, and has also been heavily involved with work at the national level. She has served as a member of the Nationwide Leadership Council’s Mentoring Programs Committee, Chair of the School Based Mentoring Task Force and a member of the Steering Committee for the Nationwide Strategic Plan.
Robin has been recognized twice as one of Maryland’s Top One Hundred Women and in May 2007 was named to the Circle of Excellence because of her selection again that year. She has also been recognized nationally by Big Brothers Big Sisters of America as the CEO of the Year in 2005. Her leadership is celebrated not only by her staff, board, family and friends, but also by informed individuals and media personnel throughout Maryland. She is full of dynamism, laughter, compassion, energy and drive – a true leader in every sense of that word.
Robin has a Bachelors Degree in Psychology from West Virginia University, and a Masters Degree in Clinical Psychology from Towson University in Towson, Maryland. She has a husband and two sons, and resides in Harford County, Maryland.
